Singapore Idol – Wildcard Episode

Latest Update: This time round, the judge would pick 2 contestants for the next round while people’s votes would save 2 more contestants. Turned out that the judges picked Gayle (wasted all my votes!) and the people picked Jay. There are two more but not worth mentioning at the moment.

Last night, I landed 3 votes to Gayles and 2 votes to Jay. This morning, I pumped another 2 votes to Gayles just in case. As of today, 15 votes have been submited (S$9 damage so far).

On my way back home, the radio was playing Lindsay Lohan’s “Confession Of A Broken Heart”. Avoid at all cost. The lyrics and the terrible melody of “Daughter to Father … I Love You” still rang inside my head right now. Very agonising.

Now, back to the Singapore Idol, happy that the judges picked Gayle and Jay into the Wildcard episode of 7 resurrected contestants. I knew Jay has potential and he did shine. I sense that Gayle may have had a flu and did not perform well. Gayle sort of reminded me of Katherine Mcphee, one of the American Idol contestants. Gayle tends to crack under pressure I guess but she has the X-factor.

Well, time to send tons of SMS’s to save someone’s music career.

Singapore Idol – All Gals (Part 2)

Well, all girls part 2 is a disappointment. There are no eye candies and definitely no hotties. In the land of the blind, one eye is queen. Meryl chose to sing Christina Aguilera’s I Turn To You. Honestly speaking, I found her off key a bit annoying. But seems that all 4 judges love her and she is definitely the queen in the land of the blind. So, 2 votes she will get from me.

In my opinion, Mathilda has the greatest voice – very much soulful. However, her look doesn’t really cut it. 1 vote it is.

Charmaine is interesting. She took on Stacy Orrico’s Stuck and I thought her stage present was there. Her singing could be a bit blend but hey, she has my 1 vote too.

So, here we are … 1 Chinese, 1 Indian, and 1 Malay. Fair play.

Latest Update: Mathilda voted into the competition and 3 of other contestants who I have voted but did not qualitied got picked into the Wildcard Round of 12 (Meryl and Gayle).

Random Encounters in the Period of WC Fever

Rejoice! Our electronic signboard with real-time display of estimated time of reaching the destinations is once again in operation (3 years?). If I remember correctly, it was too expensive to operate then. I wonder what changes today. I personally miss those signboards a lot. How accurate is that today? Well, I did several observations and they were accurate up to 1 minute with my madman driving skill – I still miss the target by a minute though. Sigh.

I do not play football, cannot tell who has fouled in the game, and neither do I gamble on results. Many friends of mine told me that they have not watched many matches. I replied to them that I have not missed many matches. In fact, I glue to the TV from 9pm to 5am each and every day. And thanks to Maxim, the magazine, I have this big piece of poster that I can stick onto the wall and update the results as World Cup progresses.

6777 3777 is a number that I shall remember from now on besides 43657 (IDOLS, duh! For SMS voting …). I am sick of ordering pizzas every time. It is expensive and I can never finish them in one go. McDonald’s delivery service is awesome and it is my brand new discovery. 6777 3777 that is. As for 43657, well, after another week of boring all-guys performance at the Singapore Idol (seriously, do guy viewers find all-guys performance even interesting to watch?), this coming episode will be all-girls performance (yay!). Except that I don’t really see any eye candies at all from the commercials. Pretty, cute, and young Singaporean gals, where are you all?!

It is because of The Omen that I have missed first half of Argentina’s match on Friday. So I have missed the first 3 goals. But I got to see the next 3 goals on the second half. How cool is that?! USA versus Italy was all blood and gory. I am sure the American viewers would love it. If you visit USA and watch their local news for just one day, you will know what I mean.

Back to The Omen – the supposed horror film that to me, it is more of a thriller – I sort of thought that the storyline is familiar. Turned out that The Omen is a remake of the 1976 classic and it has four parts to it. I wonder if they will continue remaking all.

Some of you have already known my “passion” towards ants. If you wish to buy some ant baits, don’t get Baygon. I made that mistake couple of years ago and I have just made it again. First, the baits draw the entire population of ants out of their nets and kill them all on the spot there and then. I took some pictures but they are just too gory to be displayed on my site. Second, the baits don’t work on all type of ants – specifically the fast moving ones. Buy the other brand instead (off hand, I forgot). The proper way to kill them is to let them take the baits into their nest so that I don’t need to clear all the “corpses”.

The American Idol Taylor Hicks’s single is out with his first song Do I Make You Proud. No dude, you make me sad, you make me angry, you make me want to burn all the shops that carry your single. Katherine should have been the Idol, Elliot should have been the Idol, even Chris should have been the Idol.

Oh well, time for the first match … and don’t forget, 6777 3777.

Singapore Idol – All Gals (Part 1)

After watching the painful All Boys (Part 1) last week – too many whom cannot sing AND don’t look good – the girls I thought are better both in looks department as well as … perhaps, in singing department.

For those overseas readers, the Singapore Idols website is … not surprisingly http://www.SingaporeIdol.com.

Last week’s result was no brainer. This week I have finally got to place my very first Idols vote through SMS (60 cents per SMS mind you). Jasmine sang the best and also looks decent, so she has my first vote. Between Gayle and Milly, one is better in the singing department (I do like Gayle’s voice) and the other can easily look the best in the competition so far (her eyes were so watery!). Undecided. I have casted 1 vote each. Then I thought, what the hack, I cast 1 extra vote to Jasmine just so show my support.

Now, that is S$2.40 for round 1.

Latest Update: Alright. The result is in. The girl whom I have invested 2 votes has made it (Jasmine that is). Sort of very disappointed that Gayle doesn’t make it. Instead, Rahimah – the one who has no look and can’t sing (can’t reach the high notes) – made it. Being the only Malay contestant in that round, I have predicted that she would make it. Still, I don’t like the result. At least not all of it.

Someone I Met Who Has Mugenized His White Civic

As I was shopping for the solar panel of my black Civic, I was referred to a salesman in a roadshow who drives a Civic as well (his is white). Instead of selling me the solar panel, we spent like half an hour talking about what modification can be done to Civic and there is an online community that not only discusses about bulk purchase of parts but the members also meet every month to literally share knowledge on what are the hot mods out there. This salesman was so enthusiastic about the car that he took me to Golden Shoe Car Park and showcased all the wonderful things he has done to his car … so far.

As seen from the photos, clockwise from top right-hand corner, (1) a Mugen sticker to the front of the car, (2) all the Mugen stickers underneath the bonnet, (3) a really cool looking rain breaker with some special whirly pattern (you can’t see it but you just have to take my word for it), (4) metal plates for the foot petals (note: manual car), (5) a “Si” sticker instead of the usual “2.0” sticker, and (6) light weighted nuts (he knows exactly how heavy the original nuts are in kg) for the wheels together with the red brakes to go with. What I did not photograph was the boot of the car that revealed 2 powerful amplifier and an extra woofer.

PS. “Mugen” is a famous Honda modification.
PS. Photos taken by my Nokia N80 phone.

New Sales Strategy …

Lately, I have been shopping for the solar panel for my car. I texted my car agent and he put me through this company that installs the brand of a solar panel that I have not heard of. So this salegirl called me up and explained to me what products they offer. After the call, she texted me her contact number and a website that contains her blog on not only her personal life, but also photos of all the cool cars that she has come across.

I must say that it is a very cool strategy. Her assets – pleasant looking with a decent personality – that are not able to put through the voice call are now shining through her own blog site. Next time if I have a company, the recruitment criteria would be:

1. Is she hot?
2. Is she hot?
3. Is she hot?
4. Does she blog and willing to share her blog with her potential clients and clients?

American Idol Final 3

American Idol Final 3 episode is probably the best episode to watch. Though I have a personal preference to Katherine McPhee, watching the performance from Elliot Yamin, Taylor Hicks, and Katherine herself, it is kind of hard to tell which one is the best. They are all so good in their own way. Elliot, the underdog, whom I believe he has the best male vocal and all the wonderful riffs best suit in singing blue songs which I love a lot. Taylor, with his soothing and effortless singing and his so loosen-up, so totally enjoy himself when he is on stage. And Katherine, probably the most charming of all, with her stage presence and wonderful range that many may not get to appreciate the difficulties in the songs (midway key switch and all). I hate to see any one of them going home.

From the performance last night, I gather that most probably Katherine would be safe. Between Taylor and Eliot, Taylor has the more electrifying performance in the end. Not sure how true are the voting figures when the show flashed them on the big screen, the differences between each three of them were within less than 1%. That is pretty darn close.

It is not until Elliot get voted out did I realized that how much I actually like that guy – his love to his family and his passion in life. If he ever comes up with a record (blue music please), I will definitely buy it (I said no to Cynthia last time and by the way, I think Cynthia will be much devastated when she learns that Elliot is out).

PS1. I still don’t think I will buy Taylor’s album should he releases one.
PS2. Why Elliot?! Why not Taylor?! Sigh.
PS3. Well, good news! For sure, Cynthia and I will be voting for the same person next week … that is Katherine of course … Duh?!

Oh Dear Katherine …

How time flies. This is the third week I am blogging on American Idol and I can’t believe that Katherine McPhee has made me worried once and again. Well, since there are four left – 3 guys and 1 girl – if she doesn’t screw up at all, she can easily get to the final. Alright, we shall see. Personally, I thought her 2nd song Can’t Help Falling In Love moves me.

I am a geek, I am not a geek, I am a geek, I am not a geek. I don’t know. I reckon not to stress myself up and learn what my new phone can offer (catching up on 6 years of mobile phone technology as a couple of days ago, I still lived in 2000). Yesterday was on how to transfer media files using USB cable. Today, I tried using my home wireless network. I was so surprised that my mobile phone can “talk” to my computer after 101 steps of configuration. The WEP key itself felt like 101 characters.

Anyway, I am pleased with my new phone. Very pleased. I do recommend N80. Go get it!

Singapore General Election 2006

All along, I thought I belonged to the Yio Chu Kang Single Member Constituency (YCK SMC) because I am closer to YCK MRT (Mass Railway Transit) than anywhere else. I took my “On Government Service” voting card to Andersen Primary School at late afternoon (voting time was from 8am to 8pm) and surprisingly it was pretty empty. I literally walked straight through into the counter A2 whereby they ticked my name and gave me a voting slip. On it, it said Ang Mo Kio GRC (Group Representative Constituency). I was so happy because I would love to be in the same ward as the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong. His father, the founder of Singapore, was the reason why I migrated to Singapore and I got to vote for him!

At 10pm, I turned on my TV and watched the result coming out on live. I was so excited that Cynthia was calling me a patriot in a nice way. I was logged onto an online game and I was so surprised that there were may PAP supporters within the online community.

Overall, I am very happy with the election result of government party PAP wining 66.6% (what’s up with this 6-6-6 thing and Cynthia’s birthday will be on 6-6-06) and PAP has won 82 seats in the Parliament out of 84 seats. A status quo …

American Idol, Hooters, 6 Figures, and Power

Alright. The above was taken when Katherine performed last week in American Idol. Remember last week I was sort of upset that she was misjudged (and Simon did an apology on the result day). This week, she sort of messed up on the first song. Hope the second song saves her.

Met up with RC for lunch at Hooters – his beloved restaurant. Seriously, the standard of the waitresses have gone down real bad. While RC was still mesmerised from one of the DVD Chinese series (and he will lend to me while my wife Cynthia will be gone overseas next week), I was jaw dropped by his 6 figures leave encashment when he switched job and his ex-company paid him a performance bonus (or commission so as to say) in another 6 figures. Wow … that is a lot of money!

I was sharing with him how I have upgraded my PC and that I am considering getting a Plama TV. Our discussion went wild and if I am to upgrade my PC’s power supply (as a matter of time) and if I am to use my Hi-Fi and Plasma TV to play game … the power consumption would be … my PC (600W), Plasma TV (350W), and Hi-Fi (200W) … a total of closed to 1,200W of power! Well, to help you imagine, when the iron is on, it consumes 1,200W of power and the iron will go off once it is hot enough. My new entertainment system won’t.
