Outrages News on Rape

Headline news – Man Raped 5 Daughters with Help from His Wives. What is more than outrages is the defender’s lawyer’s reply.

An Islamic man with multiple wives has repeatedly raped his five teenage girls over a period of 18 months. This man even managed to convince his wives that he had ownership over his children, which included having sex with them. Two later became pregnant and had abortion.

Now, check out the laywer’s replies –

A. Mr Harold Seet denied that his client had been motivated by lust.

B. He said the patriarch, who ran his own firm, was stressed out by having to provide for his large family. To add to these worries, he learnt that the girls were behaving inappropriate with boys.

C. He concluded that having sex with his daughters to “satisfy” them, so they would be less likely to go with others, was the lesser of the two evils, said the lawyer.

Unbelievable counter-arguement … just unbelievable.

I Support the New Singapore Integrated Resorts

Many Singaporeans are against the Integrated Resorts (IR) proposal because IR comes with a casino. In fact, none of my Singaporean friends I have talked to support the idea of having a casino here in Singapore. They feel that it is not necessary and casino will spell social issues.

Granted, gambling is a vice on its own, and so is alcoholism (heavily taxed) and prostitution (legalised and regulated). In my opinion, casual gambling is closer to alcoholism than prostitution. I don’t gamble but I do know that people here in Singapore do gamble one way or another. Lottery is gambling, playing mahjong is gambling, horse racing beting is gambling, visiting casino in Genting, Malaysia is gambling … How will a casino harm our society when there are so many regulated gambling spots inside and near Singapore? Answer is no, people don’t suddenly pick up or get addicted to gambling because there is a new casino. Serious gamblers gamble anyway, with or without a casino.

Coming from Hong Kong, I do welcome this Integrated Resort idea. This will make Singapore more vibrant. It is time to give back the people the freedom of choice that the Singaporeans are so deprived of.

Pope Dies At 84

It is a day of saddnes for some of us who remember the Pope as “champion of human freedom”, “tireless advocate of peace”, and “wonderful sense of humour”. He was one of the history’s great moral leaders and will always be remembered of. I have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see him in person at the Vatican during our honeymoon trip to Rome. The memory is still so vivid. The Pope in his bright white robe. Now the question in some of our minds would be: who will be the next Pope.

How the New Police Speed Laser is Going to Affect Me

On one hand, it is good to read the list of roads that Singapore traffic police may deploy the speed laser camera (and why do they do that?). On the other hand, it is bad because almost all the roads that I frequently use will have speed traps. The entire list can be found in the Singapore traffic police website.

I have got to be more careful when travelling in these roads: Ang Mo Kia Ave 1, Ang Mo Kia Ave 5, CTE, ECP, Kim Seng Rd, Lentor Ave, Orchard Boulevard, Scotts Rd, SLE, TPE, Upper Thomson Rd, and Yio Chu Kang Rd. There are a lot more in the polic website.

That is almost all the roads that I use on a day-to-day basis!

A Path to Reconciliation?

Read the news from Reuters today that Singapore Senior Minister and Malaysia Prime Minister resume the path to improve relationship between the two countries. This is indeed good news. I still remember that some point in the past I was very much affected by the deterioration of our relationship with the Malaysian counterpart. There are so much at stake. And since I am rooted in Singapore, I do very much like to see that water still coming in together with many other things.

I seriously do like Badawi. Much better than that Dr. Who.

Galileo Probe and Jupiter’s Moons

Woke up at 2 pm.  Actually planned to wake up at 7:30 am to watch “The Rock” again but couldn’t get up.  Had a lazy shower and ordered a light snack room service.  Felt good at that time.

The best thing that could happen to me on a Saturday Afternoon was that when I opened my email box, ten messages were waiting for me.  I had some good feedback for my story on McDonald’s.  Sam had quitted the firm.  What a pity.

Surfed the Net for a while looking for “Feminism” staffs.  Kind of interesting and of course, the Galileo Probe Image of Jupiter.  Awesome. Here are the extract from CNN news.

Over the past seven months, Galileo has explored each of Jupiter’s four largest moons.  According to its findings, Io and Europa are made of rock, while Ganymede and Callisto are icy — 60 percent rock and 40 percent ice.

But as scientists understand better what’s inside these moons, Ganymede looks more like Io.  They both have iron cores.

So while on the surface Io and Ganymede are very different objects, their interiors are quite similar.

Ganymede, three-quarter the size of Mars at 3,269 miles across, has ridges, icy grooves and craters that hint at an Earthlike crust that pulls apart and fills in with flowing rock.

Watched the film, “One Fine Day”.  I laughed all the way.  Pity that nobody (esp. my girlfriend) as that would have been a very nice film to watch with your partner.
