Snippet Of My Life Episode 5 – All Walks Of Life

A life worth writing is a life worth living, true or false?

Planet Earth caters for all walks of life. One evening I returned home. At the lobby there was a kid and a maid. 6 feet away there was a cat by the driveway. The kid kept chanting: cat, run over by the car and die … Why all this evilness of wishing another living creature dead? Extra earning equals to lesser time at home equals to a twisted next generation with the illusory help of a maid. Think family values.

Why are we trying so hard to be who we are not? At least some of us do. Overwhelmed by self-deception. Wake up! Be one with yourself. Feel blessed of who you are. You don’t need to be that someone else.

At a convenience store at Orchard, I queued to pay for my Snapple. A teen girl in front inquired: how much does vodka cost? In a board daylight. Barely legal. And there was a group of teen girls pulling out ten dollar notes determined to get that bottle of vodka over the counter. In a broad daylight. What has the world turned into?

At a convenience store near town, I entered to look for pain killer. I couldn’t find the drug and approached the sale assistance. If I am to tell you which store I was at, she will get fired and I will feel really guilty. You will know why. In just a bit.

I approached the counter. Asked for pain killer. The sale assistance pointed me to the right direction. I looked at the pricing and gasped! It must have been at least 20%-40% more expensive than other convenience stores. The sale assistance looked at me and said: don’t buy it if you don’t want to, it is way too expensive. And she repeated – in a kind and concern way. I am certain that she would not buy that from that shop either.

I love people around me in general. One day during lunch at a food center, I sat at a table with three strangers. After I finished my meal, before I left, I said with a smile: enjoy your lunch. The three ladies stared at me in a hostile manner as though I shouldn’t have said anything. I bought my dessert, sat somewhere else. Again … blah blah blah … I said with a smile: enjoy your lunch to the man siting opposite me. This stranger looked at me, smiled, and he said: thank you.

There are many types of people living around us.

Think. A life worth living is definitely a live worth writing. True or false?

Hi Wilf, I think true. A life worth living is definitely one that is worth writing.

I enjoy such articles from you (not that I don’t enjoy the rest) because your astute observation of what happens around you and your analysis often triggers my thoughts too.

There are really so many types of people living around us! It can get so overwhelming sometimes.

Diversity is what makes where we live in more interesting, ya?
I used to feel strange too if someone were to share a table at the hawker center with me and say “enjoy your lunch”…:O…that’s coz mommy always say…”never talk to strangers”…hahaha!
I guess behaviors are partially influenced by our daily environment and how we are brought up.
Now, I may not fee that strange anymore if strangers were to say “Hi” since I’m getting used to it in the typical US grocery stores. 😀

G – Hey, glad that you enjoy reading this blog. “Snippet of My Life” is a new category added recently for me to attempt to write something that is thought provoking yet short in capturing different facets of life the way that I observe.

Actually, the question at the beginning of the blog is different from the one at the end of it. One is to write a well-lived life as perhaps legacy. The other is to write your own life to be the legacy.

Tigerfish – Yep, diversity is what makes life interesting 🙂 You brought up a good point though … “never talk to stranger”. That could explain why some are more suited for sales job (cold call and meeting) than other. Next time I see some successful sales people, I ought to find out how they are being brought up. Hmmm.

Thumbs up for you!!!

Singaporeans generally are still rather conservative and cold towards strangers… Perhaps those that u happen to share your table with during lunch are the conservative types.

I guess you are right Lani that Singaporeans are rather conservative. I just find it a bit uneasy on my part to spend 15 to 20 minutes sharing the same table with someone and leave without a word. Actually I do have the urge to just chat with them like how’s the food and so on. Not sure if I will drive them off the table that way … ha ha ha.

I would have smiled at you and returned the lovely gesture. Gracious. Looking back in hostility? Man…
You’re right. There are many types of people in this world. Those who are jaded, guarded and others who trust in the general goodness of their fellowmen.
I pray I belong to the latter group–forever. =P

Hey Ivy … it is good to know that you belong to the more friendly group 🙂 Perhaps the majority of people are like you. Perhaps I was just unlucky … ha ha ha.

I have no problem sharing table with strangers and talking to them. It’s usually the strangers who don’t like that. haha…. Maybe they want some privacy or silent moments among themselves.

One guy share a table with 3 girls, of course they would be hostile mah. They probably think you were trying to pick them up.
