Avid readers of my site may have already known that my sister Lora (the lady in pink on the right) who currently lives in Hong Kong has been dating my buddy Benny (the dude behind the two lovely ladies) whom is the very first Singaporean I befriended with when I made Singapore my home back in 1995. The lady in red on the left is of course my “boss” Cynthia as now I am her personal driver, butler, cook, and etc. No price in guessing why my sister is in Singapore this week. Think “V”.
I always love to take my friends and families to Mumtaz Mahal, a Northern Indian cuisine at Far East Plaza (Orchard). The boss of the restaurant is so friendly that he always greets me personally and we always shake hands like good old friends. I don’t order from the menu; I just ask the boss for recommendation. The food is delicious. I first fell in love with Northern Indian food back in UK and Mumtaz Mahal can easily the best Northern Indian restaurant I have been to so far. Give their Tandoori chicken a try and you won’t regret it. Their home made mango ice-cream is mouth watering. What I find interesting is that after we finish the home made ice-cream, they always serve us complimentary mango ice-cream (different texture from their homemade one but is also delicious). Oh, one more thing: don’t forget to wrap up the entire meal with a cup of Masala tea as well!

I LURVE Mumtaz Mahal… for a lot of reasons.
1. The Tandoori Chicken is the best I’ve tasted so far.
2. The Tandoori Roti and mixed fruit naan are divine – they are super tasty but not oily at all.
3. The poppadom gives a spicy taste
4. The cauliflower… the cauliflower… the cauliflower !!
5. The mango home-made ice cream tastes unique
6. Last but definitely not least: the service is very good, fast, and we’ve never had to queue.
I am not a foodie, but this is one restaurant I like to visit again, and again, and again…
I am totally with you. I have not tried Tandoori Roti till that evening. I must say the taste and texture is rather … interesting.
What do you mean by “interesting”? Doesn’t taste good?
Erm … okay … Tandoori Roti tastes interestingly good!
I seriously don’t know how to pinpoint the taste of Tandoori Roti. Mixed fruit naan tastes like mixed fruit. Cheese naan tasts like cheese. Garlic and butter naan tastes like garlic and butter. Plain naan tastes … plain. Tandoori seriously doesn’t taste like Tandoori chicken.
hello… you 2 are a couple, so weird to find that 2 of u having a ‘conversation’ here…
anyway… the reviews by you 2 seems to be gd, so i might give it a try if i pass by FEP~!
Cynthia is a Gemini and she does have many different personalities! Like the home-Cynthia, business-Cynthia, online-Cynthia, and etc.
Ya, do pop by that restaurant when you have time. The tall friendly one is the boss.
wow~~~~ that meal….. is… really…. E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T~~~!!!! =)
I always like the food that gives me the strong favours. That’s why Indian food is one of my favourite. (though honestly, I love all kinds of food…. one common comment from my friends is that: You should never try the food which Lora comments as bad!!! hehe…. coz I am always very ’embracing’ towards food… haha 😛 )
I especially like the Mixed Fruit Naan~~! Of course, the spicy chicken and mutton curry were also VERY yummy~~~~!!!! =D~~~~~~
Apart from food, I also like the friendly service and the traditional decoration of the restaurant.
Though after that dinner, my throat seemed to have been ‘burnt’ where I started to have my sore throat, I will definitely tried again next time when I visit Singapore~~~~!!! ^O^
You have got to get yourself trained with the different kind of spices that you can find in Singapore food! We have chili crab, tom yam steam fish, noodle with chili, rice with curry … and I promise you after a short “training”, your throat can take in all the wonderful spices … just like mine! 🙂
Its taste so bad, and service those who dont know how to speak English, food so horrible tandoori chicken can see blood inside, mutton dont know how old,its so hard like stone,
you all can see their business is going to wrap up soon.if u really want to eat fantastic indian food can try at Rang Mahal.
Hi, im a 14 year old
This ‘tall friendly boss’ that u guys are talking about is the owner of the mumtaz mahal restaurant alright. But did u know there is another one besides the one in FEP and the amara hotel? There is one in Downtown East just beside wildwildwet. My dad runs the place. The ‘tall friendly boss’ heard about my dads managing skills and hired him as he was getting abit old. So why not try eating at the same restaurant in a different venue? I guarentee u the food and service is all of the same high standards or even better:D!
Go try it out ok?its been newly renovated and looks divine!
John – Is that so? I am sorry to hear that. Our recent experience has been good so far. I thought they have been around for quite a number of years.
Yashwin – Thanks for dropping by! So if I visit your dad’s restaurant at Downtown East, please make sure I get some really good recommendation from the chef 🙂
What’s the name of your dad’s restaurant?
its Mumtaz Mahal. the same, just at downtown east.
