French Film Must-Watch – A Ton Image

A Ton Image can be – from my distant memory – translated to “Splitting Image”. It is a movie about a sterile wife and her obstetrician husband going in great length in having a child of their own. Against his belief and without telling his wife, he has cloned his wife as their daughter.

I have not watched any movie that addresses the reality of cloning as good as this one … more.

The possibility that the clone is connected as the original one like the way twins are connected to each other, the possibility that the clone shared some part of the original one’s memory, and the possibility that the clone is, just a clone, a replica that defies God’s will … all these possibilities that are addressed by the film in about 90 minutes.

And the for for cloning? Elimination of gene inequality. Think about it. There may be an element of truth here. Think about all future generation are born free of defects; all look beautiful and attractive; all are smart. Imagine how human species can push the frontier of science and technology and art alike.

Imagine the possiblities … rather than getting so hung up on the religious and ethic issues.

Imagine the unimaginable …

Never have a chance to see this film, can’t find any french DVD in Singapore too.. now there something for me to wait for in the alliancefrancaise (a place which taught French and showcase French Movie every Tuesday) Visit this website for more info, Wil. Cause you seems to be very interested in French Movie.. (http://www.alliancefrancaise.org.sg/cineclub.html)

Ng – Oh yes! I did watch French movies at Alliance Francaise before. There was this really great, classic sci-fi French movie called “Maybe Baby” that I watched in Paris and managed to catch it again with Cynthia here at Alliance Francaise.

The only ‘complaint’ I have with Alliance Francaise is that the quality of video and sound is not that great. Also, picture house these days do bring in good foreign shows too.

Anyway, thanks for the reminder. I shall check it out at their website … lol.

yup yup.. not to forget mentioning about the lousy seat that they provided for us.. But what to do, they are the only one who show again all those good french movie that i once missed before..

Ng – Or we shall pray that a French movie festival will come to Cathay soon? They do have International film festival from time to time. It’s about time for a French one.

Wil- it came and it over already (3 – 12 OCTOBER), i went and saw a film “Bad Faith”. Interesting concept, about the grilfriend who going thru pregnancy. Each of the family believe in different belief and they are being torn apart as they come together.

I like those film that reflect those culture of the country.. thru the film i learn that France also have alot of different belief like Singapore..

Ng – I briefly worked in Paris before and yes, they do have quite a good mix of people from different cultures. I often find the French to be very creative.

Wow … you even remember the exact dates!

Wil- No lah, i did not specially remember the date. Got it from the Cathay website..

Awsome dude, you worked in Paris before? the further i went from Singapore is only Penang or Genting Highland (whichever is the furthest, i don’t know). You should include that experience in your blog, i will be very interested to read it..

Ng – Yes, I have blogged about Paris long long time ago. I even have a tag on that!

But … these are really old stuff. I think I must have evolved a lot since then … lol.
