I have promised to post the details of my new toy and here we are. But before we get to that, I wish to share a little story with you all. I used to think that talking about the climate of the technology world bore people. Recently, I have the privilege to meet people who have little passion or knowledge on what goes on behind the press of a button, set aside the companies and driving forces behind. Perhaps it was the way I tell the stories, they did genuinely want to read more after hearing what I said. It was a humbling revelation. If a good singer can sing anything from a phonebook, maybe a good storyteller should be able to tell a story on even the most unglamorous topic?
So here it goes. I mean, here I try.

I got mine a few months ago. What do you know? Same mobo too! They were out of the Samsung LCD when I was there. Oh well.
CSC – Hey, our two systems are actually very similar! Both a quad core, both using 8800GT, and both using 4GB RAM (same chipset, i.e. motherboard, some more).
I notice that you have a Zalman fan. Do you OC? How far can you reach? I read that Q6600 can OC up to 3 GHz. Or at least 2.8 GHz. My vendor told me that if I OC, the warranty is void. Not sure if I shall play with my S$500+ investment that way.
Wah, this entry scores high on the geek-o-meter. I thought geeks at least speak English too. a-b-c-d-e-f-g….
Yep! Same video card, CPU, mobo, ram! Scary!
I haven’t overclocked at the moment. Maybe, I will in future. I have overclocked quite a bit in the past. I got a few industrial strength fans because my fans have died previously and that lead to a system-wide collapse after. Not funny.
Yes, I was also quite pro-AMD but lately, their microprocessors have been disappointing. Sadly, I am back to evil Intel.
Cynthia, assembling PCs is simplicity itself. It’s so much easier these days. Besides, a shop can also do it. I think true geekdom would be programming in assembly or c at least. I don’t find the current consumer mobile phone and ipods to be geeky at all, I call that consumerism, consumer electronics! Hahaha.
Cynthia – Ha ha ha … funny reply. I wonder if I can list out techie terms from A to Z (probably start with AMD and end with Zalman).
CSC – If I have the skill and the experience like you and if I have the CPU fan ready, I would definitely OC the quad core to see how high I can get. And while I am at it, I would OC the 8800GT too! I will need liquid nitrogen to cool my machine!
