When I was a bachelor, I seldom watch TV. In fact, I could live months happily without a TV. I was used to think that TV takes up too much of my attention. I preferred entertainments such as listening to music and reading books. Now, I am a changed man.
I often wonder what others are watching. For me, “Heroes” has to be on top of my list. By far the best and most original TV series I have watched with ordinary people discovering their extraordinary powers while in search of their destiny. Once in a while a hero dies. So long as the soft porn star still lives, I am happy (please don’t tell me the ending if you have already watched the series on the web).
Cynthia got me into watching “Desperate Housewives”. I was initially sceptical over the recycled plots (on relationship and murder) for each season but the stories are actually quite interesting. I in particularly like the narration especially in the beginning and the end of each episode. And yes, I think Eva Longoria (as “Gabrielle”) is very hot.
“Rome” from HBO is actually a TV series worthy of watching due to its artistic value. The first season of 10 episodes tells the story of Gaius Julius Caesar (played by Ciarán Hinds) through 2 commoners. The costumes, rituals, and the scripts are well attended to. Some of the concepts are foreign to today’s tradition but then again, “Rome” is a story back in the old days. I was worried that this season would not be as good because of the death of the iconic Julius Caesar from the previous season. Fortunately, the adult version of Gaius Octavian’s rise of power added much power to the plot. I am eager to see how the story unfolds.
I recently got hooked onto “Angela’s Eyes”. Cynthia does not like the main actress Abigail Spencer because she looks too cold and fearsome. I find this attitude of hers attractive. It is a cross between Alias and some crime related drama and Angela’s special ability is her eyes – she can see through lies. That sort of put her in an interesting situation in her social life.
Of course not to forget to mention that my beloved Jennifer Love Hewitt’s “Ghost Whisperer” will return this Friday with a new season. I did not miss a single episode of the last season. Neither will I miss any this season.
Lastly, I also watch After Hours. I know I know … many friends of mine are frown upon my, shall I say, lack of taste or lack of class. Some episodes are not so watchable but some episodes are quite light and nice. For me, it is a change from all the Western series and “After Hours” is not strictly a Chinese series either. Just nice for me.
So, these are my indulgence during evening hours. What are ones you are currently watching?

Yes Heroes is getting more and more exciting. Who’s the soft porn star?! Eureka looks interesting, but I’ve not watched any of the episodes. Currently, every Monday and Tuesday evening there is an interesting Korean series on channel 100, and I watch this Japanese series every Sunday morning.
And yeah, I seem to catch more shows on TV as I age and after marriage. How many couch potatoes had been created by marriages?
Hey Mark. Niki is a stripper. She has split personality and her evil half that has twice her strength. You can see her video here.
Korean and Japanese series eh? What time is it? Are they dramas?
Interesting concept that marriages create couch potatoes. I guess it is one of the few things couples can do together at home besides eat and sleep.
Technically, a porn star and a stripper are two very different professions. So is a prostitute, you don’t use the jobs interchangeably.
Anyway, Niki is quite a hottie huh… but the part of the plot about her kind of sucks. Quite a pain to watch, although I think there must be a reason for including her, other than the obvious reason to include some bit of sexuality into the series.
The other boring part is the Indian chap, Surash. just kill him off and be done with it. Sylar should have killed him when he had the chance.
Oops sorry…
The Korean series is every Monday and Tuesday night, channel 100 (free with Digital Cable, which is the only reason for me to upgrade from analog), 9pm I think. It’s about this girl whose father operates a mortuary.
The Japanese series is every Sunday 9am. About this geeky guy who wants to be a rich man. Has some pretty Japanese ladies in the show though.
Thanks Mark! Looks like I will need to wake up early on Sundays from now on!
Actually, Niki is a stripper *and* a soft porn star. She charges clients money to watch her naked (amongst other things) over webcam.
About killing off the Indian chap. Nah, his role is very important. He is supposed to be the scientist who bring all these special people together and to find the “cure”.
Oh man… why did they kill the African American hot chick?
Hey! I am hooked onto Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy and Prison Break here! Haha. Marriage contributes to a person being a couch potato. How about being married and relocated to a country where recreational activities and English shows, movies, music etc. are limited? Haha. Without the cable, I am done. Absolutely nothing to watch. 😛
Mark – Ya, I was surprised that in last season, Melinda’s best friend died. I guess we are in for a refreshing season 2. I still haven’t watched the recorded episode yet because my mother is in town. Hard to find time.
Jann – Speaking as such, I have borrowed Prison Break I and II from my friend and Cynthia is yet to watch that. According to my friend, why watch a TV series that is full of …. men? Ha ha ha. I certainly wish to give Grey’s Anatomy a go. I heard many good things about it.
I remember one time I was relocated Paris. The only channel I can watch (in English) was MTV.
The Japanese drama series ended yesterday. Nice happy ending. But I realised you probably wouldn’t watch it because it was dubbed in Mandarin and there were no subtitles.
Ah … what a waste. You are right. I can’t quite understand Mandarin.
While I agree that marriages can create couch potatoes, my TV watching is actually more moderated since I got married. I guess it depends on who we’re married to – and find a middle ground.
I’eve never played computer game before I got married, and now sort of hooked to WoW.
After watching tonight’s episode of Ghost Whisperer, I think I know why the best friend died… because Jennifer’s “Love Hewitts” just overshadow everything… and Aisha’s “Tylers” just can’t compare 😛
Ya, good to have you over my place with just two guys watching Jennifer Love Hewitt over beer. Man, all those “ooo’s” and “ahh’s”.
