We Celebrated Christmas Eve the Twilight Way

Twilight

Wow.  How Kristen Stewart has grown up from the 12 years old Panic Room diabetes into one fine young actress who is in love with … a vampire.  Twilight watched like a mix of my favorite TV series Buffy and Felicity.  Add that with the cool rock numbers by Linkin Park, Muse, Paramore, and more – OK, this concoction is rather appetizing.

Cynthia and I are both big fans of vampire stories (for different reasons of course).  Watching Twilight to me is like watching a chick flick.  A film adaptation of a young adults book, I am not surprise on how far the film wouldn’t go.  So we have vegetarian vampires, vampires that shimmer in light of diamond under the sun (?!), and a lust so strong that … turns into a series of friendly, cosy conversations on the bed.  Now, if I was the filmmaker, I would have created a Twilight Reload and chopped it with a R(A) rating.

There are moments of awkwardness – at least to me – like the attempt-to-be Romeo & Juliet style of courtship at the woods, or those Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon kind of flying and flirting scenes.  But there are also moments of tenderness and fresh ideas such as vampires playing baseball games (I know) that is really cool to watch.

Pairing the talented Kristen Stewart with the rather stiff looking one dimensional vamp Robert Pattinson to me is like pairing Natalie Portman with the dude who plays Anakin Skywalker.  Hey, I am a guy.  Maybe girls do love Robert Pattinson for his cool factor.  Who knows?

I think Kristen Stewart has potential.  I am keen to follow her acting career.

By the way, Merry Christmas to y’all and watch out for our Movie Review Squad’s nomination for the Year 2008 Movie Awards.  It will be fun, I promise.

Wil- I have to disagree with you about Kristen Stewart. I always thought that Alexis Bledel (from Gilmore Girls) will be more suitable for the role. She will potray very well as a weak and sick person as per described in the book. See her in “The Sisterhood of traveling pants” (if u have a chance) & u will know what i meant.

However, you are right about Robert Pattinson “cool factor”. After my sister watch finished the show, she can’t stop talking about him. That happens even before the movie came out(cause by the book and poster, i guess))! i guess gals love these kind of stiff looking-cool factor guys.

Ng – Oh, I am too a big fan of Alexis Bledel. I simply adore her.

I wonder what would this film be like if to fit a 27 years old actress to the role instead of a 18 years old. I would have thought a younger one is more realistic for the school setting.

If you just look at the angst and vulnerable side of Kriste Stewart, I thought she has done a good job. Hmmm.

Wil- Hmm, i think the age gap is not that large. Take a look here at her recent photo on the website, http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1008703232/tt1018785. This was on 04/08/2008 after the shooting of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”. She still look like early 20 to me..
Beside they are actresses, they could act young or old easily.

Anyway, there will be another awesome movie waiting for us here in Singapore.

Ng – True. These are pros. They can act more mature or much younger than they really are. There was an option to watch that movie in your comment during my flight to Hong Kong just moments ago. But I was busy reviewing a book that I’ve promised McGraw-Hill long time ago. Maybe I’ll watch it on the way back given I have finished their 2nd one by then!

Wil- Sure no problem, have a safe flight back and hope you enjoy the chick flick!

Anyway, just want to mention that your website really covers a wide range of topic (that awesome!). i was recently learning how to trade the US market. That why i want to learn as much about the US market as possible. I read your book review and download a chapter from the website to read already.

If i find that it is really such a good book as you mention, i will even order online from Amazon!

Ng – Trading in the US market means you will need to stay up till wee hours?

Thanks for your kind words. At times I wish my blog site to be more focus on a single set of topics like many successful bloggers. But somehow, staying focus is not really my strength … ha ha ha.

Wil- Nah! I pay a hefty sum to learn how to use little money and little time to trade in US market.

I usually spend one hour to decide whether to make the trade for the day. So i still sleep at 11.30pm and can still goes to work in the morning.

So, how did you managed to catch that chick flick on your way back home?

Ng – Oh, we flew on the 26th. I know … we work very hard here in the review squad … ha ha ha.

I think once you are into the US market, you have got to monitor it pretty closely. Many friends of mine they don’t sleep till the US market closes. And then, they wake up early for the Asia markets to open as we usually take cue from what happens to US market the day before.

Wil- Na, I only monitor for an hour every day. You see what I do is to determine the direction that it is going for that day and I will set a target price and a Stop loss price.

Once the market hits my target price it will trigger and sell off or it reaches my SL price it will also trigger and sell off but I will sustain some losses.

Now I am doing some paper trading, that doesn’t involve any money. I managed to make some paper profit while I was sleeping. That was very cool!

Ng – That sounds encouraging. I read that it is good time to go in. Perhaps you may wish to switch to actual trading mode soon 🙂 Wishing you a prosperous 2009!
